SPRING IRRAWADDY

TGZ-203 14 Days/ 13 Nights
Yangon- PyinOoLwin- Putao- Myitkyina- Bhamo- Mandalay- Yangon

Being the principal river of Myanmar, Irrawaddy has lived up to nourish the land and its people like a mother. Formed at Myitkyina, about 100 miles upstream from Bhamo, by the glacial rivulets of Himalaya Range, River Irrawaddy flows for 900 miles to empty into Andaman Sea. City States had flourished along this river's banks and nationhood of Myanmar has sprung out from Mother Irrawaddy. Yet, the dignity of this great Asian river poises solely on her natural beauty.

Day 1:

Arrival Yangon by flight.

bullet

Welcoming at airport and transfer to hotel. Sightseeing the highlights of Yangon. Shwedagon Pagoda and National Museum will give a brief image of Myanmar.

Overnight at Yangon.

 

Day 2:
bullet

Early morning breakfast and transfer to airport. Take the morning flight to Mandalay .Transfer from Mandalay airport to PyinOoLwin (46 miles / 2 Hours).

Sightseeing Pyin-Oo-Lwin and its environs.

bullet

Overnight at PyinOoLwin.

 

Day 3:
bullet

Early morning at 08:30, set out a sightseeing day trip to Gok-Hteik Viaduct which is 42 miles by the train ride from PyinOoLwin railways station.

Gok-Hteik Viaduct is 300 feet high spanning across the gorge is highlight of this trip. One drawback is, it is not allowed to take pictures while crossing the bridge. But there are 5 spots to take the pictures of this great bridge before crossing the bridge and 2 more chances after passing by. At one time it was a highest viaduct in the world.

Lunch on the train, lunch baskets will be arranged with the hotel. Disembark the train at Naung-Peng. On the way back from Gok-Hteik Viaduct by car there is a particular spot where you can view the great viaduct. Here cameras are not restricted. When crossing the gorge by train, it is from high up but when return by car the road is down below the valley by a small bridge. Continue sightseeing at PyinOoLwin for the remaining afternoon.

Overnight at Pyin-Oo-Lwin.

 

Day 4:
bullet Take a car ride back to Mandalay.
bullet Continue sightseeing Mandalay highlights.
bullet Overnight at Mandalay.

 

Day 5:
bullet Take the flight to Putao from Mandalay.
bullet Transfer to hotel. Afternoon visit to Mola-shidi Bridge which is 9 miles south of Putao. Sightseeing Lisu village of Mola-shidi on the way back.
bullet Overnight at Putao.

 

Day 6:
bullet Morning, take a 14 miles trip to small town of Ma-chan-baw. En route a Rawang tribe village can be visited and observed. Afternoon, take a 9 miles car ride to Hta-wah-dam village, which is situated on the West bank of Mae-li-kha River. Cross the river by motorized small boat to the east bank. Walking along the east bank for 1000 meter (5 furlongs) will reach Kaung-mu-lon Pagoda of Khamti Shan tribe.
bullet Overnight at Putao.

 

Day 7:
bullet Morning, sightseeing around Putao. Take the flight to Myitkyina, principal city of Kachin State. Visit to confluence of two rivulets, Mae-li-kha and Mae-kha, where the River Irrawaddy is formed. Confluence is 27 miles / one hour from Myitkyina; it is suggestible to set out to Confluence before checking in at hotel to catch the day light, if possible.
bullet Overnight at Myitkyina.

 

Day 8:
bullet Continue sightseeing in Myitkyina for the morning. Take the flight to Bhamo from Myitkyina. Welcoming at the airport. At evening, strolling around the town and visiting Shwe-Kyee-Narr Pagoda.
bullet Overnight at Bhamo.

 

Day 9:
bullet Take a river boat down stream River Aye-yar-wa-dy.
bullet Through out this river passage, it is arranged to serve full board meal which will be inclusive in Tour price. Near Sin-hkan (17miles from Bhamo), the boat passes through tall gorges of Second Irrawaddy Defile. Shore sightseeing at Shwe-Gu.
bullet Overnight on board, near Shwe-Gu.

 

Day 10:
bullet Continue boat riding on The River Aye-yar-wa-dy.
bullet Shore sightseeing at Katha (setting town of George Orwell's Burmese Days). Near Katha is one riverside timber workers' habitat, where elephant riding will be arranged, worksite is inland thus we may have to choose not to visit that far. Sailing down the river to Inn-Ywa where tributary Shwe-Li River merged into Irrawaddy.
bullet Overnight on board near Inn-Ywa (100 miles from Bhamo).

 

Day 11:
bullet Continue the river cruising with shore sightseeing at Ta-gaung (one ancient city of Myanmar, in fact it is the earliest city-state kingdom historically recorded). Expect to arrive Kyauk-Myaung by the nightfall. Shore sightseeing at Kyauk-Myaung.
bullet Overnight on board near Kyauk-Myaung.

 

Day 12:
bullet Landed at Mandalay and transfer to hotel. Expected time of arrival at Mandalay is 11:00~12:00. Sightseeing at Mandalay for the afternoon.
bullet Overnight at Mandalay.

 

Day 13:
bullet Mandalay to Yangon by morning flight.
bullet Transfer to hotel. Sightseeing highlights of Yangon.
bullet Overnight at Yangon.

 

Day 14:
bullet Early morning breakfast and take a car ride to Kyauk-tan and Syriam, the satellite towns of Yangon. Visit the Village of National Races where traditional habitats are displayed, in spite of artificiality it is good place to observe the traditional utensils, building styles, pattern of adornments and especially the merging and uniqueness of each style among major Asian trends. Set out to Kyauktan by car. Sightseeing monumental relics from ancient Mon kingdoms and serene agro-based Myanmar rural surrounding which is about to merge into Yangon metropolis. Lunch at Thanlyin. Sightseeing Thanlyin, one of a Myanmar trading seaport dated back to 15th century. Afternoon drive back to Yangon. Leisure at Hotel. Transfer to Yangon International Airport.
bullet Departure Yangon by the evening flight.
